Newton Edmonton Real Estate
The neighbourhood of Newton is found in north east Edmonton. The neighbourhood is named for Reverend William Newton, who arrived in Edmonton in 1875. According to the 2001 federal census, development in the neighbourhood began before the end of World War II, with 8.8% of homes being completed by then. During the next 15 years, between 1946 and 1960, 45.8% of Newton homes were built. During the 1970s, another 15.4% of Newton homes were built, and 18% were built during the 1980s. The rest of the construction happened after 1990. According to the 2005 municipal census, single-family homes are the most common type of home in Newton, making up 88% of all neighbourhood homes. Rented apartments make up another 7%, and 4% are duplexes. A total of 79% of Newton homes are owner-occupied. There is only one school in Newton – St. Leo Catholic Elementary School, which operates under the Edmonton Catholic School System.
