The neighborhood of Strathcona is located in south central Edmonton. The neighborhood is part of Old Strathcona, and looks over the North Saskatchewan River and the Mill Creek Ravine. It’s situated between 107th Street and the Mill Creek Ravine, just north of Whyte Avenue. Approximately 15% of the homes in Strathcona were built before the end of World War II, according to the 2001 federal census, and the majority of the homes were built between 1960 and 1980. Infill housing is replacing many of the character homes in the area, but there are still many of them throughout the neighborhood. A little under half of the homes in the neighborhood are low-rise apartments, and a quarter of the homes are high-rise apartments, and another quarter are single-family homes. A total of 71% of the homes in Strathcona are rented.
